Dresser / Toilet Sets

Antique Victorian Traveling Toilet Set contained in its original leather-covered box; an upper tray fitted with four various sized rectangular hinged silvergilt boxes with the tops and sides engraved with engine-turned decoration, two rectangular glass flasks with similarly decorated silvergilt cylindrical collars and hinged caps, and a similarly decorated cylindrical silvergilt shaving brush housing; the lower tray fitted with seven tortoiseshell handled pieces including two razors, a nail file, an awl, a button hook, a very small corkscrew, and a knife (some pieces with gold trim), a two part small steel corkscrew, a gilt metal corkscrew, and an 18k gold earwax remover / tweezers; an interior bottom flap with spring to hold flat papers; the hinged cover housing a detachable easel mirror. The gold earwax remover / tweezers and silvergilt boxes and flasks marked by Thomas Diller at London in 1845/46, the steel blades of the razors and nail files marked by Edwards, the steel blades on the knife marked by Asprey, and the case lock marked by J. Bramah of 124 Picadilly. No monos. The case 3.38" high, 9.75" long, 5.62" wide, the leather chipped with a very large piece missing from the backside. Box sizes are 6.12" x 1.12" x 1.12", 3.25" x 1.12" x 2.0", 3.12" x 1.12" x 1.25" (2); Flasks are 4.38" x 1.12" x 1.0";  Shaving Brush housing (missing fittings) is 3.06" x 0.88" diameter; the fitted lower tray missing two scissors, several of the tortoiseshell handles missing small pieces. Antique American Silver Dresser Jar of compressed globular form, the mushroom form slip-on domed cover and sides chased allover with floral and fern chased repoussι decoration (#25); marked by the James R. Armiger Co. of Baltimore MD, c.1900-1915. No mono. 3.5" high, 4.25" body diameter, 3.25" lip diameter, 6.9 troy oz. $ 500.

Antique Victorian Silver Dresser Box of cylindrical form with ruffled foot and cover rims, the domed slip-on cover and body chased with grotesque and fantastical mask, floral, and scroll decoration; marked by William Comyns at London in 1896/97 and struck with the French import mark when retailed by Tiffany & Co. at their Paris shop. Mono "LMP". 3.88" high, 3.88" diameter,  6.7 troy oz. $ 800.

American Silvergilt Hair Pin Box of oval form, the domed slip-on cover embossed with floral and scroll decoration (#268); made by Dominick & Haff of New York NY and retailed by the Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. of Philadelphia PA, c.1890-1915. No mono. 1.0" high, 3.62" long, 1.0" wide, 1.4 troy oz. $ 200.
1369-31.jpg (38713 bytes) 1369-31. American Silver Lidded Cut Glass Puff Box with embossed floral decorated lid and plain silver knobbed powder puff (#S3291); made by the Gorham Mfg. Co. of Providence RI and retailed by the Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. of Philadelphia PA, c.1900-1930. Mono "JPPM" on both lid and puff handle. 3.25" high, jar 3.5" wide, foot 2.0" foot diameter, cover 1.3 troy oz. Lid slightly loose; puff fragile. $ 350.

American Silver Lidded Glass Dresser Jar with ribbed cut glass decoration, the domed cover chased with foliate scroll decoration on the sides (#301); marked by the Hayden Mfg. Co. of Newark NJ, c.1890-1910. Large mono "EJMcK" on lid. Overall: 3.25" high, 4.5" wide; the Cover: 1.12" high, 3.25" diameter, 2.2 troy oz. $ 175.
1570-13. American Silver Hair Receiver of convex circular form, the mushroom form cover with pierced center hole, chased allover with floral repoussι decoration (#450A); made by the Stieff Co. of Baltimore MD in 1926. Script mono "BLB". 3.75" high, 4.5" body diameter, 2.75" lip diameter, 8.1 troy oz. $ 550.

Antique Austrian Silver Dresser Box of square form, the hinged lid with applied reeded rim and inset with a green Wedgwood plaque of an allegorical(?) hunting scene; marked by Alexander Sturm at Vienna, c.1885-1910. 1.5" high, 4.75" square, 3.38" diameter plaque, 14.1 troy oz. gross. Engraved armorial device; an inscription has been erased. $ 900.

Antique American Silver Dresser Jar of compressed baluster circular form, slightly domed slip-on cover and body chased with repoussι foliate scroll and floral decoration, gilt interior (#13164); marked by Tiffany & Co. of New York NY 1902-1907. No mono. 2.62" high, 4.25" diameter, 7.8 troy oz. Some dings. $ 660.
1564-54. American Silver Toothbrush Box of long cylindrical form with slip-on pierced cover, the sides with two etched bands at top and botton and the cover with floral etched decoration, gilt interior (#8850G); made by Tiffany & Co. of New York NY, c.1907-1930. Script mono "CPM". 6.6" high, 1.4" diameter, 4.4 troy oz. $ 200.
1492-65.jpg (40297 bytes) 1492-65. Antique German Silver Dresser Box of oval form with slightly domed hinged lid, the sides engraved with foliate bands at the top and bottom rims, screwed in lock; marked by [WEIGEL.] at Kassel, c.1830-1860. Mono "E.R.G." on the cover. 2.25" high, 5.0" long, 3.75" deep, 9.0 troy oz. Recently repaired and polished with patches at lower base rim and upper hinge joint, some rough joints. $ 300.
