This page will list a large variety of holloware which is used in various serving capacities, usually for food. These categories may seem arbitrary but will hopefully allow you to view the offerings in a systematic manner. Baskets will generally refer to pieces with either two opposing handles or a single overhead loop handle, the bowl can vary from being very shallow to quite deep. Bowls will be fairly deep, may be of different shapes, and will often have a foot; specific usage such as fruit or punch are often conjectural without having recourse to an original catalog.  Compotes  will have a shallow or flat surface elevated on a pedestal foot. A broad range of pieces will be classified as Dishes which will usually be fairly shallow; the separate category Platters will encompass the largest examples. Plates will list pieces that were used for individual diners; examples would include dinner plates, dessert plates, and bread & butter plates. Trays will have a wide flat surface that will usually support another container such as tea & coffee sets, water pitchers, or goblets; trays without handles are often referred to as salvers or waiters. Pieces will be placed according to the above guidelines regardless of the popular nomenclature; for instance, both "bread trays" and "cake plates" will be listed under Dishes rather than under the category suggested by their popular name. Within any particular category items will be arranged alphabetically by manufacturer.

Antique American silver from this web page of Civil War vintage and earlier will also be listed on our Coin Silver Holloware web page together with all holloware from that early period. To view various archive examples of Baltimore repoussι see the Repoussι Tableware page. If a piece is marked Hold or Layaway it has been reserved by a customer, and if it is marked Sold the transaction has been completed.
